Job Description: Identifies overpayments and refunds the appropriate party assuring compliance with Hospital policies and procedures. Understands all aspects of payor contracts in terms of payments/refunds. Utilizes appropriate software to identify all credit balances and determines appropriate action for refunds. Process refunds with the goal of account accuracy and customer satisfaction with every encounter. A refund Specialist works to facilitate resolution or refunds through attention to detail, problem solving initiative and dedication to efficient service for patients and insurance companies. Be an active member of the team and assist other team members when necessary. Utilize effective communication skills, observe high levels of confidentiality, and make personal behavior a priority.<

Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma or equivalent education is required. Requires two (2) years refunding experience and three (3) years in Patient Financial service experience and/or accounts receivable experience utilizing automated patient accounting systems. Must have experience with Lawson and Microsoft products. Must have mathematical competency to understand debits, credits, adjustments, and reconciliation. Knowledge of insurance company's contracts and regulations is required to perform this job. Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills are a must. Ability to think logically and apply mathematical principals required. Work requires effective communication skills, oral and written, with patients, families, visitors, co-workers, etc. Courtesy, tact and honesty are expected when communicating with patients, families, visitors and co-workers etc.

Preferred Qualifications: Post high-school education preferred. Certified Patient Accounting Technician (CPAT) desirable. Five (5) years of Hospital billing experience is preferred. Five (5) years of mathematical competency to understand debits, credits, adjustments and reconciliation is desired.
