Job Description: Incumbent is responsible for management of the day to day operations of the assigned coding areas at the network level. Staff includes in-house and remote employees at various LVHN campuses, as well as contracted staff. In this role, incumbent is responsible for coordination of HIM DNFC (discharge, not final coded), all internal and external monitoring and auditing, coding education plan, and project management. The output of the section is used for financial and billing purposes, to meet licensure requirements, network quality initiatives, for statistics, and for public hospital and physician reporting. Area of responsibility may include inpatient facility, outpatient facility, or various provider based services

Minimum Requirements: A bachelor's degree and an AHIMA or AAPC Certification is required. A minimum of three (3) years coding experience in an acute care or provider based setting as applicable is required. Must have expert knowledge of ICD-9-CM coding, classification guidelines and regulations, and DRG assignment and management. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, regulatory agency requirements, severity of illness classification, and health care statistics computation. Must have the ability to interpret existing documentation and discern when clarification of documentation may lead to more accurate coding, i.e., more specificity, reconciliation of ambiguous or conflicting documentation, and appropriate recording of case mix and patient severity. Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, excellent communication and presentation skills, self-motivation and initiative are required. Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office are also required.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous supervisory experience in an acute care setting is preferred.

Licensure and Certifications: AHIMA or AAPC Certification is required.
